Humans of LBCC

Eric Stone

“I’m 39 years old and have been here at LBCC for nearly three years. As a child I was beat by my dad and put down by my mom almost daily, but I came out if it a stronger man. Now I focus on putting others first and helping people know their potential and worth. One way I do this is by being a Gideon. I help hand out bibles to young people and we've also spoke for the campus Crusade. I think everyone's college experience is different and it all depends on the friends you make. I love LBCC, it’s very
friendly environment
.”

Kayley Anderson

"I want to become an AG teacher and teach others about agriculture. I don’t think enough people know where the items that they’re using comes from. The clothes on their back, the food that they eat, even the flowers in your garden; Everything around us involves agriculture and I think it’s important for more people to know about that. If I wasn’t working toward being an AG teacher, I would probably still go for a different ag degree; probably forestry because I love being out in nature.”

William Wiltse

"I would say there are a lot of similarities between LBCC and state colleges. A lot of support, a lot of administration, a huge diverse range of classes. This is my final quarter at LBCC, I’m a psychology major, and I’ll be transferring to Oregon State. I am looking to use my degree to go into law enforcement. I don’t plan on going for the state police, but really any department in the state; city or county is what I am hoping for."

Week One Blog Forum

I enrolled in the photo journalism course because it ties in well with the experience I have gained by working on "The Commuter" since fall term 2017, and also being a journalism major. I have taken photography classes in the past and I am a cinematographer by trade/hobby. I wanted to learn the journalism style of photography because one can never have too many tools in the box of experience.

Outside of my kids, and family, my number one love in life is film making. I love writing, directing, and producing short films, feature films, commercials, and music videos. My passion for film making has lead to me creating LB Films, which is co-ran by fellow student and filmmaker Justen Noll. LB Films is a film club at Linn-Benton Community College. Every term, it is the club's goal to create at least one short film per term.

My goals for this photo journalism class is to enhance my abilities with my camera in reference to taking photos for news. I hope to learn the best type of photos to take depending on the story that is to be written. I am hoping to get better at taking action photos. These require more thinking on your feet, and this is something I need work on when it comes to photography. I also hope to take at least 1,000 photos this term, based on the idea of, "The more you take, the better your odds of getting good photos."

I plan on taking photos and writing stories pertaining to the weekly meetings of the SLC. This is a weekly meeting by the student leadership council, which is the group that makes a lot of the decisions that affect the clubs and different policies on campus.

I also plan on attending theater events at the school because these are student focused and involves many people with connections to LBCC.

I will probably attend a couple of sporting events. These are the events that will give the opportunity to really focus on action shots, which is something I am wanting to improve.
