I enrolled in the photo journalism course because it ties in well with the experience I have gained by working on "The Commuter" since fall term 2017, and also being a journalism major. I have taken photography classes in the past and I am a cinematographer by trade/hobby. I wanted to learn the journalism style of photography because one can never have too many tools in the box of experience.
Outside of my kids, and family, my number one love in life is film making. I love writing, directing, and producing short films, feature films, commercials, and music videos. My passion for film making has lead to me creating LB Films, which is co-ran by fellow student and filmmaker Justen Noll. LB Films is a film club at Linn-Benton Community College. Every term, it is the club's goal to create at least one short film per term.
My goals for this photo journalism class is to enhance my abilities with my camera in reference to taking photos for news. I hope to learn the best type of photos to take depending on the story that is to be written. I am hoping to get better at taking action photos. These require more thinking on your feet, and this is something I need work on when it comes to photography. I also hope to take at least 1,000 photos this term, based on the idea of, "The more you take, the better your odds of getting good photos."
I plan on taking photos and writing stories pertaining to the weekly meetings of the SLC. This is a weekly meeting by the student leadership council, which is the group that makes a lot of the decisions that affect the clubs and different policies on campus.
I also plan on attending theater events at the school because these are student focused and involves many people with connections to LBCC.
I will probably attend a couple of sporting events. These are the events that will give the opportunity to really focus on action shots, which is something I am wanting to improve.
